Corporate policies sometimes clash in unexpected ways. A new mobile phone comes with a warranty for a short period of time which will get you a replacement phone if a manufacturing defect shows up. You also have the option of buying insurance, which will replace the phone if it's lost, stolen, or broken.

But if a manufacturing defect doesn't appear until after the warranty expires, the insurance won't help and you're stuck. This strikes most people as weird, if not completely irrational.

What to do when faced with corporate irrationality? There are creative solutions.
